The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) was established in 1973 to support economic and social development in the Western Asia region. With its headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon, UNESCWA serves as a vital platform for member states to engage in dialogue, share experiences, and promote regional cooperation and integration. The commission works closely with governments, civil society, and international organisations to address various developmental challenges and promote sustainable growth in the region.

 Under the leadership of Rola Dashti, UNESCWA focuses on fostering economic diversification, enhancing social inclusion, and advancing sustainable development goals. The commission provides policy advice, analytical studies, and technical assistance to its member states, enabling them to devise effective strategies for tackling key issues such as poverty eradication, gender equality, and climate change. UNESCWA also plays a significant role in monitoring and analysing economic and social trends, offering valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders.

 UNESCWA is committed to empowering member states through capacity-building initiatives, knowledge sharing, and fostering innovation.
